Looking for flexible work that fits around school hours?  Here are five great ways to make money from home.

1. Make quick cash with online surveys

Online surveys are a great way to make some quick, easy cash while sat at your computer. Ok, so they're not going to make you a millionaire - but if you sometimes have 15 minutes to spare at lunchtime or at home, you can earn around £50 a month.
Some surveys even give you the chance to test (and keep!) products before they hit the shops - everything from shampoo to laptops.
You won't find an easier way to earn a bit of extra spending money.
Just remember three things:
  • Never pay to join an online survey site. Ones that ask you for money are likely scams. They should always be free (see our list of recommended sites below).
  • Set up a separate email account. We recommend setting up a Hotmail or Gmail account just for online surveys. You'll get emailed lots of survey invitations, so create a new account if you don't want your main inbox getting clogged up.
  • Join at least FIVE good survey sites. The more sites you sign up to, the more paid surveys you'll get offered. If you only sign up to one site, you'll probably only get offered a survey every week or so, if that.
Top 5 online survey sites:
Toluna and ACOP are also good (especially for freebies - you can get paid up to £15 to test products which you then get to keep...fromfree laptops to shampoo bottles!)
And for extra cash try:
Keep an eye out for the £25,000 sweepstakes fromGivekusyour2Cents currently on to encourage sign ups. See our full guide to making money with paid surveys.
Pros: It's a quick and easy way to earn a bit of cash on the side.
Cons: You won't earn enough to chuck in the day job.

2. Data entry

If you don’t want to run your own business then straight data-entry might be more up your street.  You’ll just need good typing skills and a broadband connection to get started.
As always, avoid companies which ask for money up front.  Look on reputable recruitment sites  like WorkingMums.co.uk, which specialises in flexible and part-time roles. Or try auction sites like PeoplePerHour.com where you bid for work.
Pros: Flexible and easy to learn.
Cons: It’s isolated and you’ll still need childcare.

3. Virtual assistant

make money from home as a Virtual Assistant
If you have good admin skills why not make money from home by setting yourself up as a remote PA, handling general office duties for businesses that don’t need full-time secretarial support?
You’ll need office experience, space to work, and a reasonably efficient computer with broadband and up-to-date software.  Contact the Society of Virtual Assistants or the UK Association of Virtual Assistants to find out more.
Pros: Good rates and you can choose your hours.
Cons: No technical support if things go wrong.

4. Rent out your spare space

In recent years, several initiatives have sprung up helping you to rent out various spaces in your property. This means you could set up a regular rental income without having anyone living in your home!
Spareground.co.uk will help you rent out loft or cellar space (to be used for storage). It will also help you rent out part of your garden (as an allotment, for example) or even your garden shed.
And schemes like ParkAtMyHouse.com and ParkLet.co.uk allow you to rent out your driveway or parking space to other motorists.
Your parking space could prove particularly lucrative if you live near a popular destination, like a stadium or airport.
Pros: It's an easy way to make serious money.
Cons: You need to have the space to spare in the first place!
